I went behind the scenes with the lead developer of the AI Trojan Terminator. He walked me through the development process and explained how the AI model was trained to detect arcade cheating signals.
Training the AI Model
“We trained the model on data from over 200 arcade machines across multiple countries. The training data included normal gameplay signals, known cheating signals, and simulated attack patterns. The model learned to distinguish between legitimate machine communication and unauthorized signal injection.
The key insight was that normal machine operation has consistent patterns. The timing, voltage levels, and frequency usage are predictable. Cheating signals, even novel ones, deviate from these patterns in detectable ways. The model does not need to know what the cheating method is. It only needs to know that something does not look normal.”
Edge Cases and False Positives
“The biggest challenge during development was minimizing false positives. A machine that is being serviced or recalibrated produces signals that look abnormal. Power fluctuations can also cause signal anomalies. The model needed to distinguish between normal operational variance and actual cheating attempts.
We solved this by adding context from multiple parameters. A single anomalous signal is not enough to trigger a block. The model looks for multiple indicators that together suggest an attack. This approach reduced false positives to under 1% after the initial learning period.”
Ongoing Improvement
“The model continues to learn from each deployment. When a new cheating method is documented, we feed that data back into the training set. The next generation of the model will be better at detecting that method. This continuous improvement cycle is the core advantage of AI-based detection over static signature matching.”
