8 Steps to Catch a Cheating Player in Your Arcade

Catching a cheating player in your arcade requires observation, data analysis, and the right equipment. This 8-step process covers the entire detection and confirmation workflow.

Step 1: Identify a Suspect Machine

Start with the data. Review your payout logs and cash reconciliation records. Identify machines with persistent payout discrepancies above 3%. These machines are the most likely targets.

Step 2: Review Device Logs

If you have anti-cheat devices installed, check their event logs. Look for blocked signals on the suspect machines. Note the timestamps of blocked events and the frequency of attacks.

Step 3: Correlate with Staff Observations

Ask your staff if they have noticed any unusual player behavior near the suspect machines. Staff often notice patterns that do not show up in the data, such as the same player visiting at the same time every week.

Step 4: Review Camera Footage

Review security camera footage from the timestamps identified in the device logs. Look for players who are at the machine during blocked events. Focus on players who hold electronic devices near the machine, who block the machine panel from view, or who win consistently.

Step 5: Establish a Pattern

If the same player appears in footage multiple times during blocked events, you have identified a suspect. Note their physical description, typical visit times, and the methods they appear to use.

Step 6: Confirm the Method

If you have a Gen2 device on the machine, the event log tells you the type of attack being blocked. Signal injection, jammer, EMP, or wire tap. This information confirms the cheating method and helps you choose the right countermeasure.

Step 7: Decide on Action

If the cheating is electronic and your protection is blocking it, no further action may be needed. The device is doing its job. If the cheating is physical or involves staff collusion, you may need to involve law enforcement or take disciplinary action.

Step 8: Document and Share

Document the entire case: what was detected, how it was confirmed, and what action was taken. Share anonymized findings with other operators in your network to help them protect their venues.
